Camping Misadventures, Episode 2, Tuesday

We started our day on Tuesday with a little hiking. No one told me how buggy hiking can be!! I almost got eaten alive!
So we decided to go to the beach. Less bugs. The water was very cold, but it was nice and sunny. Perfect beach weather. Bethany braved the water a little bit, but liked being in the sand more. I liked hanging out with Daddy!

Guts and Glory

$560!!!! That's right, you all showed overwhelming support of Matthew in his 1st annual Crohn's walk. Thank you so much for thinking of him and showing us your love. Bethany and Jonas had tons of fun at the event, which was held at the Buffalo Zoo! Aren't they ridiculously cute in those t-shirts?

Fiddlesticks and Letterboxing

We continued our 4th celebration Tuesday night with a walk to the park to see Fiddlesticks. Bethany entertained everyone behind us with her dancing and clapping! She loves music. When she started getting too antsy we officially began a new hobby by finding our first letterbox. I have always loved treasure hunts, and that's basically the whole concept of letterboxing. Fun!The holiday was spent with friends in Rochester. Although I was so excited about our new hobby that we planned another box hunt. We were completely unsuccessful in finding it, but we had fun plowing through overgrown trails and trying to avoid the rain. Wow, that really doesn't sound fun, but it was. After the failed hunt, we dried ourselves for an afternoon with Andy, Josh and the gang, and we were home just before the fog set in.

Premature 4th

We decided to go see West Seneca's fireworks last night, too. We got there early to get a good spot, which turned out to be a little too good since we got firework debris all over ourselves. It was worth it, and Bethany thought the show was amazing. Despite being super tired, she had a great time!

Allentown

Today we went to the Allentown Art Festival. So much fun! We checked out some of the architecture, too, giving Bethany a chance to walk around and get away from the crowds. The picture below is of the Cornell Mansion, built in 1894. (Andy C., you'd really appreciate this part of Buffalo!) We need to explore here again after the festival is over.

Strolling

Bethany loves being outside. Yesterday we went out with Jonas and walked the entire zoo again. Bethany was a very good cousin and constantly checked on Jonas in the stroller to make sure he was ok. While we were there the elephants were getting their pictures taken with Sabres flags, which was really cool! Go Sabres!!

'Tis the Season

Bethany went to the mall this morning with her Uncle Mike, Mary and Jonas. They must've worn her out pretty good because she was seriously knocked out when I got there to pick her up. I tried just talking to her to wake her up. Didn't work. Wheeled her out to the car in the rain. Still sound asleep. It wasn't until I unbuckled her and lifted her out of the stroller that she stirred. What a tired baby! Then she took a good nap from 6:00 to 8:00 (of course), and is still awake as we speak. That hasn't happened in a while...

Going to the Zoo, ooh ooh

Today was Bethany's first time to the Buffalo Zoo - and I wasn't there! Her Uncle Mike took her while he was babysitting. What a fun uncle she has! She looks all warm and bundly, doesn't she? She has on a giraffe onesie for the occasion... you just can't tell with all those layers. It's the thought that counts, right?

Trick or Treat

Bethany's first Halloween!!! She had lots of fun trick-or-treating. Here's the basic rundown of our day:
1:00 We started out trying to figure out how my little Pebbles was going to have the little poof of hair on top of her head.
2:00 Yay! All ready to start our adventure!2:30 First stop - visiting Daddy at work. All his co-workers thought Bethany was the most adorable baby in the world. I would have to agree.3:00 Off to UB to show everyone our fun costume. We visited with my school group, and got stopped plenty of times by admirers! Then we bundled up for the long walk back to the car!5:30 Met up with Bamm-Bamm (aka Jonas) and Aunt Sarah. Had a little bit of a photo shoot, and dinner, before heading out again.7:00 Off to Aunt Marie and Uncle Larry's . They were having a little party in their garage with all their neighbors. Apparently Pebbles is not a good costume to be wearing if you're actually going to be outside. Bethany had to cuddle up with Grandma. (And Mommy got some candy!)7:30 Next stop: The Center to see Great Grandma. Bethany had to visit all of Great Gram's friends and pose for more pictures. We did a little line dancing, and Mom got some more candy before heading out.8:30 Final Stop: Jonas' grandma's. She had LOTS of fun Halloween decorations that lit up and made cool sounds. Bethany thought it was all very cool. Once again, Mom stocked up on candy before leaving for home!9:00 Bethany got home, had a bottle, and went right to sleep. Now Mom and Dad can enjoy the benefits of Bethany's trick-or-treating. I love having a baby.

Enfield, Connecticut

Bethany celebrated her 4 month birthday in Connecticut! We spent a long weekend visiting my roomie from college, Kara, and her awesome family. It was the first time I met her kids, and the first they saw of little Bethany. We had so much fun! Bethany went to the zoo for the first time... she didn't care about many of the animals, but she loved walking around and all the attention she was getting. Little Jaycelyn gave her plenty of love! (I have so many good pictures of this weekend... so I'm going to spend a whole week showing them to you. It'll be a good break for me; I start my school orientation this week.)

Green Lakes Camping

I love camping. The week was filled with bocce ball, frisbee golf, swimming, hiking, games, campfires, and A LOT of eating. How much better can you get? Bethany packed in a lot of firsts: first time picking her nose (unintentionally), first boo-boo (2 actually, a scratch on her arm and a cut baby toe), first time in a tent, first time meeting Uncle Andy and Aunt Paula, first time on a boat (the Maid of the Mist), and her first hiking trip. Not bad... she's getting to be a pro at new things!

Green Lakes Hiking

Green Lake is the most beautiful lake ever. I can't believe how green it is! We took the stroller for a spin around the two lakes (a nice 3 mile walk), and definitely appreciated the surroundings. Bethany was very impressed with how the sun came through the tops of the trees, and was sitting pretty comfortably in the cool shade. Uncle Pete and Aunt Kim took over pushing for a good bit of the trip, and Mom and Dad got some quality time. Very nice!

Happy 4th of July!

Bethany's first 4th of July was spent visiting friends in Rochester. We spent the night Monday, and were able to spend the entire 4th hanging out with friends. Bethany spent some of the afternoon lazing around on the couch watching the world cup...

Then we headed outside for some foxtail. Bethany had a fun time watching her dad and Uncle Andrew act like complete doofuses trying to attack each other for the ball. I'm sure if she could talk the mocking would have been nonstop (her Aunt Day and I did the talking for her). And, surprise surprise... she won over Andrew's heart, and he actually held her.

Evening came, and Bethany experienced her first fireworks! Believe it or not, she actually enjoyed them! OK, maybe not enjoyed them, but she never cried. That's something.

So, after a late night out, and being able to sleep in this morning, my little girl woke up a happy camper. It's just too bad that mood didn't last too long...
